The Spartans at Oak Lawn Community High School stand with great pride. As the only school in Oak Lawn Community High School District 229, OLCHS serves the communities of Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, Chicago Ridge, and Hometown. With a total enrollment of nearly 2,000 students, Oak Lawn High isn’t a very large school, but they do have great heart. The Illinois high school boasts themselves as a diverse and inclusive 21st-century school whose mission is to prepare students for future success through a safe, supportive, and intellectually challenging environment. History
Oak Lawn was opened as a public secondary school in 1952 in the Chicago metropolitan area. The name “Spartans” and the school colors of green and white were chosen as a tribute to the Michigan State Spartans, winners of the 1954 Rose Bowl. Now, the school has given its namesake a whole new meaning with interscholastic athletic teams in basketball, bowling, cross county, soccer, swimming and diving, tack and field, volleyball, and theater. There is even a coed bass fishing team!
The School Location
Oak Lawn is a residential neighborhood of 60,000+ residents in the SOuthwest part of the Greater Chicago area.
District 229, which serves sections of Bridgeview, Chicago Ridge, Oak Lawn, and all of Hometown, has boundaries of 87th Street on the north, 99th Street on the south, Crawford Avenue on the east, and Harlem Avenue on the west–a rectangle 4 miles wide east and west, 1 1/2 miles long north and south. The elementary districts are 122 and 123, within the high school district.
Located in Oak Lawn, Illinois right off the SW Highway, just about 2 miles west of the Oak Lawn Ice Arena, OLCHS is a suburban campus environment. Encouraged by a well-trained and supportive staff, students are offered Advanced Placement and College Readiness programs as well as general education. Holding a 90 percent graduation rate, it’s obvious the staff is dedicated to the future success of its students. One parent proudly states with a 4-star review:

GreatSchools rates this local Illinois high school a 4 out of 5 stars, further proving Oak Lawn High’s commitment and dedication to its curriculum and students. Not only does the school offer general education courses for its diverse population of students, there are also extra-curricular activities to participate in such as the school newspaper, the Spartanite, and the school yearbook, the Shield.
Getting Ready for School Picture Day
Students who attend OLCHS are fortunate enough to be located just a short 3-minute drive down Parkside Avenue to Oak Lawn’s trusted family and cosmetic dental clinic, Inside the Smile. Whether they are being featured in the school newspaper for breaking a school record or preparing for the ever-dreaded picture day, Dr. Mike and his team will get students excited to flash their pearly whites.

Oak Lawn Community High School is a fantastic environment for both students and staff alike. Students flourish under the guidance of a knowledgeable and caring administration. OLCHS may just be a small school in an Illinois village, but it makes a big impact on each and every students’ life.
After-School Activities
